Carry (1962) studeerde Modevormgeving aan de Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (HKU). Na een lange carrière als modeontwerpster, waarin zij zowel commerciële collecties als unieke bruidsmode, feestkleding en interieurtextiel ontwikkelde, verschoof haar aandacht naar de beeldende kunst. Waar in haar modeontwerp al het spel met transparantie, gelaagdheid en materiaal voelbaar was, vond zij in haar sculpturen een eigen vrije beeldtaal.
Carry werkt met transparante materialen als metaalgaas en tule. Daarmee creëert zij driedimensionale sculpturen en installaties die in dialoog staan met licht en beweging. Het werk verandert voortdurend met de blik van de toeschouwer: vanuit elke hoek ontstaat een andere optiek in kleur en vorm, wat de sculpturen een intrigerende gelaagdheid geeft.
Haar recente series hebben verschillende richtingen. De golvende sculpturen benadrukken beweging en lichtheid. De gevouwen structuren, ontstaan vanuit de serie Living Stream, gaan over veerkracht en de stroom van het leven: de paden die wij belopen en de stromen die ons dragen. De coconachtige vormen doen denken aan huiden en omhulsels die worden afgeworpen, als symbolen voor transformatie, bescherming en vernieuwing.
Altijd staat het spel tussen fragiliteit en kracht, openheid en geslotenheid, verbinding en stroming centraal. Haar sculpturen nodigen uit tot reflectie en communicatie, tot het ervaren van de verhouding tussen jezelf, de ander en de wereld om je heen.

Carry (1962) studied Fashion Design at the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU). After a long career as a fashion designer, creating both commercial collections and unique bridal wear, evening dresses and interior textiles, her focus shifted towards the visual arts. What was already present in her fashion work – the exploration of transparency, layering and the tension between strength and softness – has become the foundation of her sculptural practice.
She works with transparent materials such as metal mesh and tulle, creating threedimensional sculptures and installations that enter into dialogue with light and movement. The work transforms continuously with the viewer’s gaze: from every angle a new perspective of colour and form emerges, giving the sculptures an intriguing sense of depth.
Her recent series move in several directions. Flowing structures emphasize movement and lightness. Folded structures, developed within the series Living Stream, speak of resilience and the currents of life: the paths we walk and the flows that carry us. Cocoonlike shapes evoke skins and shells that have been shed, symbols of transformation, protection and renewal.
At the heart of her work lies the interplay between fragility and strength, openness and enclosure, connection and flow. Her sculptures invite reflection and communication, offering an experience of the relationship between oneself, others and the world around us.
